The project
A both virtual and real meeting space to tell and share stories of immigration and science.
Since the Nineties, the migratory phenomenon in Italy has experienced continuous growth and is now comparable in size to that of states with more ancient immigration, aligning the Italian scenario with that of countries such as France, Great Britain and Germany.
Today, foreign citizens present throughout the country account for about 9% of resident population. Who are they? What do they do? Why did they choose Italy and what is the socio-economic impact they have generated?
“Scienza Migrante” wants to make their stories known, through tales of life and science that feature those who have emigrated from their countries of origin, bringing with them a wealth of cultural and scientific knowledge that is often little known or unexpressed.
The project primarily addresses the community of scientists, with the aim of valorising the cultural and scientific heritage of immigrants on our territory. We want to contribute to the debate on the importance of integration for social progress, using the universal language of science and the value of scientific thinking to convey the message.
Scienza Migrante is:
The portal with the ‘migrant scientists’ stories.
‘Migrant aperitif’: a series of scientific, cultural and linguistic aperitifs to meet the protagonists of our stories and discover with them the culture of their home countries.
‘Cineforum’: a film forum dedicated to movies focusing on the themes of science, culture and migration
