Photo Exhibition – opening December 15, 6:30 pm – Dar Al Hikma

As you probably know by now, Scienza Migrante 2.0 is a portal of stories about science and migration that aims to highlight a side of migration that is often unknown, which brings to Italy students and researchers from all over the world. However, this wonderful adventure is coming to an end. December will mark the end of the second edition of the project which, just like the first, has been incredibly enriching thanks to all that the protagonists have decided to share. From the incredible passion for their fields of research or professional careers, their resilience in a new and often hostile environment, to that veil of nostalgia that has enabled us to glimpse, through their stories, their different countries of origin. This edition also featured the stories of those who decided to migrate from Italy to other countries in search of better professional opportunities.

Many have decided to continue their studies in Italy as this was not possible in their home countries, or as only abroad they could aspire to a higher level of education. For others, however, Italy was not really a choice. Whether this represents a temporary step or a final destination where they can have their skills recognised, the general desire is to – one day – spread all the skills and knowledge acquired in their countries of origin. In all articles, we have tried to highlight the uniqueness and complexity of each story, and this is why we have organised a closing event to showcase them all: a photographic exhibition featuring migrant scientists from both editions! Stories that in this way can continue to be shared, and for us a way to ensure that the project continues to be a real meeting place, as well as a virtual one.

The exhibition has been organised in collaboration with Porta delle Culture, a project who brings together associations and organisations dealing with migration in the Porta Palazzo district of Turin. The neighbourhood has an immense cultural and social heritage, which Porta delle Culture aims to recount and represent by creating a Cultural Centre for Migration in Porta Palazzo before, followed by a Museum of Migrations of the city. The Porta delle Culture project is based at the Dar Al Hikma Italian-Arab cultural centre, which has been active in Turin since 1999 to meet the demand for cultural and social services from the city’s Arab and Middle Eastern communities. Dar Al Hikma, which means ‘House of Wisdom’ in Arabic, today promotes cultural and social activities that aim to provide opportunities for constructive discussion and interaction. The spaces of the cultural centre will host our photography exhibition from 15 December 15 2025, to 30 January 2026. A timeframe useful to ensure as many people as possible to enjoy the exhibition.

We invite you and look forward to seeing you at the opening of the exhibition on Monday 15 December at 6:30 p.m. at Via Fiocchetto 15, Turin!
